Eutelsat Broadband and ATS Elektronik present innovative communications solutions for on-site emergency operations

Flexible rates and efficient services for vehicles and mobile emergency forces

08th June 2015 – Satellite based solutions are more and more entering the public security sector to connect at large scale emergencies operation units and sites in remote areas with control centers or to establish redundant secure communication links. Eutelsat Broadband, the broadband subsidiary of Eutelsat Communications (NYSE Euronext Paris: ETL), and ATS Elektronik GmbH, a leading solutions and service provider in the security and communications industry, will present at the World’s leading fair for fire brigades Interschutz from June 8 – 15 in Hanover (hall 12, stand D13) innovative services at flexible rates for emergency forces and vehicles of fire brigades and the police on site. These satellite based solutions for operators of critical communication infrastructures are basing on Eutelsat’s high throughput satellite platform KA-SAT to deliver dedicated broadband IP services.

Eutelsat Broadband has developed with tooway™ Business a new portfolio of business services and rates with guaranted minimum bandwidth tailored to the different needs of professional users. E.g “tooway™ Telemetry” is a very cost-efficient solution for video-based object supervision systems that will transmit videos and pictures in alarm scenarios. Another service offers to fire brigades and the police options to establish in emergency cases fast internet access and communication solutions charged only if in operation on demand. These services offer download speeds of up to 22 Mbps and allows uploads with up to 6 Mbps from the emergency site. This is extremely important if high volume video, photo and data content needs to be transmitted asap to the operation centers.

For broadband access of emergency vehicles and operation units Eutelsat Broadband presents appropriate satellite antennas at the stand e.g partner ND Satcom. The antennas use automatic pointing to be directed to the Eutelsat satellite KA-SAT to connect systems on site with the operation centers within minutes. Other solutions are fly-away antennas for mobile operations that can be transported in small boxes and also be directed to the satellite at very small time.

Other solutions presented at Interschutz include powerful WAN connections of remote located fire brigade and police stations to their relevant operation centers. Another focus is on connections of video surveyed safety-relevant objects and the integration of monitoring sensors. All solutions provided by Eutelsat Broadband also have the option VoIP. This is significantly important in large –scale emergency cases if other communication infrastructures as Tetra are affected.

ATS-Elektronik is combining these advanced satellite solutions with its products to connect Tetra and DMR radio networks. The company has a network of market leading partners including DAMM Cellular Systems A/S (TETRA Infrastructure) and Motorola Solutions GmbH Germany (DMR infrastructure). Spectrum of applications ranging from ad-hoc broadband communications in mobile operation controls for voice, data and video transmissions, the realization of TETRA radio supplies with autonomously operating basic stations to the monitoring of critical infrastructures, backhaul and backup solutions for existing communications networks.

The KA-SAT services offer as autonomous broadband solutions to receive and transmit data the significant advantage to operate completely independent from bound and classical radio based infrastructures. The satellite provides a unique plus in the case of overloaded or destroyed networks in the case of cases of natural disasters and specific large-scale damage situations.
First live cases have been presented by both partners most recently at the security fair PMRExpo in Cologne in connecting two separate TETRA cells in Cologne and Wunstorf nearby Hanover via KA-SAT. The solution is convincing by its fast installation and high transmission quality.
