In the past, protection of public and private environments has been provided by security personnel that kept control over locations day and night. Before the availability of broadband networks, such protection was implemented using analog video surveillance or CCTV solutions connected to local control rooms.
The introduction of broadband digital video surveillance solutions has gained international traction. However fast, WAN connectivity is not available everywhere. In unserved/underserved regions, bandwidth is often too low to provide a proper video signal to a centralised control room. KA-SAT can be the solution to this problem, as it provides bandwidth of up to 6 Mbps in the uplink. This level of capacity can easily serve a remote group of video surveillance cameras.
